Spring Program

Global Cities Urban Realities is a multi-site study abroad program which responds to student interest in shorter term stays.  Thematically focused, this program will provide students in majors such as Global or International Studies, Sociology, Political Science, History, Film and Comparative Literature with a unique opportunity to compare and contrast the histories and contemporary realities of two exciting and dynamic European capitals:  London and Paris.

Program description

The Global Cities Urban Realities program offered in London and Paris will introduce students to the complex social, political and economic issues brought about by immigration, increasing diversity and urban challenges.

Students will take two courses in each city that trace preeminent themes in each country’s political and social history linked to the capital city’s current societal makeup. Through their coursework, students will interrogate how the challenges of contemporary urban diversity play out in particular arenas.  Over the course of the program, students will take a total of four content courses, two in each city, for a total of 16 UC quarter units.  Students will also have the option of taking a 2-unit "directed study" in their second city.  All Paris students will be enrolled in a 1.5 quarter unit (1 semester unit) survival French course.

2015 Program dates

March 25 - June 6, 2015, with the city switch from London to Paris occuring on Thursday, April 30th.  Students participating in the internship component will end on July 18, 2015.   See calendars for complete program dates.
